Solar PV for Poultry Sheds

Poultry sheds are perfect for Solar PV as all they have quite low roofs, unobstructed by openings and usually all or most of the electricity generated can be utilised on-site which gives the maximum possible electricity cost savings.

For low-risk electricity generation, quick financial paybacks (typically 3 to 5 yrs payback)  and very long product warranties, the ideal solution is solar PV (photovoltaic). Generating your own electricity is a fantastic way of lowering electricity bills, reducing your carbon footprint and also promoting a more positive message for the surrounding environment.

The PV panels are efficient enough to be able to produce almost 200W/m2, and unlike other on site generating plant there will be no space impact on the building itself.

Being able to introduce cost effective, environmentally friendly and sustainable heat and power solutions is at the forefront of what Myriad do.

Heating Systems for Poultry Houses

Through years of experience within the sector, working with businesses both big and small we have discovered a pattern – nearly every poultry production site we have worked on has been located off the gas grid.

If your site is suffering from the same issues, or even if you’re looking for an alternative to fossil fuels then we’re here to let you know there are options.

Biomass energy offers a competitive alternative to direct fire oil/LPG heating which can be both retrofitted into existing fans or integrated into brand new sheds.

Through the burning of wood-chips and wood pellets, biomass boilers accomplish the same capabilities of their fossil fuel counterparts, whilst also saving you money on fuel costs and reducing your heating bills.

Biomass boilers can even heat water remotely, which can then be piped underground into poultry houses and through heat exchangers, can then be transferred into warm air. This form of heating not only saves on cost, but has massive benefits to poultry houses environment and your birds’ welfare.

Benefits of Biomass Systems in Poultry Houses

  • Fuel Costs: Biomass fuel is far cheaper than traditional fossil fuels, in some cases wood pellets and chips can be as much as half the price.
  • Efficiency: Our biomass boilers operate at 90% efficiency, meaning you get more heat from your wood per tonne, whilst also reducing carbon output. Most poultry farmers we work with also find that their crops meet target weight some days earlier due to efficient and cost-effective heat sources, saving you time and money.
  • Atmosphere: A biomass heating system will provide your shed with gentle, dry heat. Gas LPG systems create water via the combustion process which creates damp litter and also high CO2 levels in the shed. By switching to indirect heating (using hot water) you’re creating a healthier environment for your birds and minimising health risks, both of which will improve the growth of the birds.
  • Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI): Poultry biomass applications are  eligible for this government scheme in which you receive regular payments for owning renewable heating systems. The scheme is closed to new applicants but there are used boilers available that can be supplied which will provid ethe RHI income for the new owner.
