Industrial Biomass - Drying Kilns

Industrial Biomass - Drying Kilns

Details

Together Myriad and the client developed a holistic solution that included a 500kW Herz industrial biomass boiler to provide heating to both the manufacturing process and also to the drying kilns.

This project involved the build of a brand new steel framed plant room to house the new boiler and also a new steel fuel store with a walking floor and hydraulic opening lid to simplify the fuel delivery.  As principle contractor, Myriad was also responsible for keeping the site operational - carefully managing the installation of the district heating pipes around the site as well as the heating fans inside the production areas without distrupting the site operations.

The primary source of fuel for the boilers is sawdust and timber waste generated by the manufacturing plant. Myriad designed a system that would meet the emissions standards and suit the manufacturing plant. The boilers were customised to include a specially designed moving grate combustion chamber, modified to suit dusty fuel.

The project was completed in 2018 and is working very well.

This new system will help the client improve its sustainability credentials as well as utilise a waste source that is costly to dispose of.
