Waste Wood Boilers Overview
Whilst Waste Incineration Directive (WID/IED) compliant biomass boilers are not niche technology, they are very different from the mainstream biomass boilers you may be familiar with for domestic and commercial use.
A WID/IED compliant boiler is a true industrial boiler with the robust build and design which has been designed to withstand the rigours of handling a varied mix of waste wood fuel. Rated for over 8,000 running hours per annum, compared to standard biomass boiler ratings of typically 2,500 running hours per annum.
Visibly ‘clean’ recycled waste wood mainly from packaging waste, scrap pallets, packing cases and cable drums, and process off -cuts from the manufacture of untreated products. It is our understanding that ‘single use’ packaging and pallet manufactured within the UK are unlikely to have been subject to any form of treatment.
This material can be burnt in a standard Herz Industrial boiler, you do not need a WID compliant system.
May contain Grade A wood together with other waste wood sourced from construction and demolition activities, transfer stations, civic amenity sites and the manufacture of furniture from solid wood.
Generally this material is only found where the providence is absolutely clear, eg waste material from manufacture of furniture and burnt at the manufacturign site. This material can be burnt in a standard Herz Industrial boiler, you do not need a WID compliant system.
May contain the above grades of waste wood and from similar sources, but will predominantly consist of panel products such as panel board, MDF, plywood, including products bonded using heat treatment.
This material can only be burnt in WID compliant system, 2 sec @ 850degC with currect flue gas cleanup plant.
Is hazardous waste consisti ng of wood which has had copper, chrome, arsenic (CCA) treatment or creosote applied. It can only be disposed of by incinerati on or hazardous waste landfi ll.
This material must be burnt in an elevated temperature WID compliant system. 2 sec @ 1,100degC with currect flue gas cleanup plant.
