Commercial Biomass - Poultry Farm

Commercial Biomass - Poultry Farm

The client was keen to meet carbon reduction targets set by the Government, intending on becoming self-sufficient from green energy as a business by 2016 and carbon neutral as a whole by 2020. They have already invested in other technologies for electricity such as wind and solar, and turned to Rural Energy to meet their heating needs.

Part of a £24.5 million development, the project was worth over £4 million to Rural Energy and followed more than 12 months of careful planning with the renewable financers. Now the Herz Firematic boilers have been installed into more than 21 of the turkey group’s farm sites.

Rural Energy installed the Herz boilers into packaged plant rooms constructed by Armstrong or Baxi/PPS.

The 180 x 150kW or 199kW Firematics (providing over 30MW of heating in total) are housed in purpose built, prefabricated containers. Prefabricating these reduced any disruption on site, allowing the turkey farms to continue operating normally. Each site has an average of eight or nine poultry sheds, with the largest having 34.
